The More I Eat..The More I Lose!

I'm Still a Big "Fat-Loser"!
This weeks weigh in, I'm down 3lbs!
That's a total of 7.5lbs in 4 weeks!

It is not much but it is still something for saying that I still am not doing much exercise and my eating habits still leave something to be desired. I hope to change my exercise routine soon. I want to get back into Zumba or maybe Jazzercise once again.  I do a fair bit of  yard work on the weekend but that is the only extra exercise I have been doing. As I said in an earlier post, the only substantial thing I have been doing is drinking more water, eating more and taking in less sugar. From the looks of it...those little changes have been enough to shed a few pounds.

When I spoke with the nurse this morning during my weigh-in, I told her what little I have done and how it was weird for me to be having such good results.  She asked had I started eating breakfast or eating more in general. I confessed. Yes, I was eating more throughout the day, but it was not always the healthiest choice. Although I do try.  She said that was OK. She reminded me that snacking throughout the day allows the body to burn calories more effectively. Basically what happens when you don't eat is your body goes into this "Starvation mode". So when you do finally eat something the body reacts by thinking, "Hey we don't know when we will get food again, so let's store all we can so that we will have it for later!" However, if you are eating constantly throughout the day, the body realizes that more is coming and will start to burn off and effectively use those calories that it is taking in.

Then she gave me some new information. She said that eating more during the day also keeps the body's glucose level stable. My understanding of what she was telling me is that  when you are eat small meals throughout the day, your body's sugar levels is able to stay more consistent (if you are eating the right foods of course). Your body does not go through those highs and lows as when you don't eat for a while and then you finally do eat something. This I have noticed first hand. Since eating more,  I don't feel that "2pm drag" as strongly anymore, if at all some days.

One of my small meals that I started eating was breakfast. About a year ago, when I was looking to loose weight to get into this beautiful bridesmaids dress for my BFF's wedding, I came a cross something in my research that said breakfast is, as we all know, the most important meal of the day. But do we know why? At the time, I did but I really didn't. I knew it was to give the body energy and blah blah blah first thing in the morning but the true depth of it never really hit me until I read this article. Eating breakfast breaks us from the fast that our body goes into when we sleep by giving us the energy to get our day and metabolism started.

Check out the article I found on WebMD for a more detailed explanation and how breakfast can help keep glucose levels stable.

Believe in Breakfast

Break the fast
After a good night's rest, your blood sugar or glucose level is low. Skipping breakfast allows the body to stay in the hibernation-like state, which burns only minimal calories.
Believe it or not, you can actually lose weight by eating breakfast because the food in your stomach boosts your metabolism.
It's true, your body needs to get its metabolism revved up, and the only way to do it is with a nutritious meal. Kick start that engine with a healthy breakfast and you will help keep blood sugar and hormone levels stable while your metabolism hums along at a higher level, burning more calories.

I find it pretty cool that I can eat more drink more and still stay a good competitor in this competition. I have lost 7.5 lbs in 4 weeks by changing very little...Can you imagine what my results will be like when I add exercise to the mix!
